Narrative summary
GD (0.23) and TOP (0.43) and the rest of the Bigbang members are all close friends. The actress (Park Minyoung) is GD's girlfriend and she pretends to cheat on him with TOP because she is diagnosed with cancer. She wants GD to hate her making it easier for him when she dies but instead it further destroyed him. Other Bigbang member hurt seeing him in pain but are reluctant to tell. In the hospital scene, they are all there and one of the Bigbang members call GD and tells him about the surgery. He runs to her and their TOP tells him the real truth. However when she is rolled our of operating thes=atre it is seen that it was too late and she doesn't survive.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The narrative is used my merging both the storyline which is acted by the singers and lip-synced as well. This is really effective when trying to show the raw emotions of the songs because the narrative and song go well together so it makes the audience feel as if the song is part of the storyline. When applying Roland Barthes theory it is visible that there are many actions and engima codes for example in the scene when Park Min-Young's character (3.04) hair is falling out creates engima code because it makes the reader wonder that is happening but in the end, it is revealed through an action code(her in the hospital) that she, in fact, has cancer.
We can also apply Todorov's equilibrium theory how the equilibrium is shown by flashbacks of the past when the couple were in perfect harmony and how in the present when he falsely being made to believe he is being cheated on by his girlfriend and her having cancer there is a disruption in this harmony. The beginning fight scene is the scene the declares this Disequilibrium and that is when the first rap verse began putting further emphasis on it. There isn't much of a new equilibrium because at the end she doesn't survive however to some extent the new equilibrium maybe GD finding out the truth and not living in a false lie.
The props theory can be also applied where the real villain could be cancer and the false villain would be TOP because it is revealed at the end he only had good intentions. The hero could be GD but it isn't as clear because he has not much control over the outcome so maybe the real heroes would be the doctors if they saved his girlfriend however that wasn't the case as a result there may be no hero.
In conclusion, it can be seen how a well-developed narrative has a large influence on a song and through the narrative, the meaning and emotions of the song can be created. Furthermore, the narrative can influence the audience's perspective on a song, for example, a depressing narrative can highlight the sad song.

Music Video 2: Mise-en-scene
Meaning of the song:
The song has 2 main concepts of manual labour and frogs. The frog concept is related to a Korean children story about a rebellious frog who always opposed his mother and did the opposite of what she asked. It can be seen in the music video how the mis_en_scene represents this idea.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Through the costume (safety helmet and high visibility vest), and the use of props (ladder and drill) it is obvious to see that the location of the scene is a construction site. Also placing the singer in the middle scene crouching to a similar position as a frog it is visible to see the singer is portraying the rebellious frog in the construction site. This maybe is done to show how the boy group are going against the norm and are being rebellious to the usually encouraged job to be in. Could show how Pentagon is going against society and people telling them what they should be doing.
Also can be in this scene where the actors are being reckless and full of energy. This again goes with how they represent the rebellious frog but instead of opposing the mother they are opposing society and things society considers should be done.
This specific scene is used to criticise the older generation which wants the younger generation to be passive and listen to their orders like robots do (through the use of the lyrics) and them eating chicken is Pentagon denying the older generation and telling them to pretty much go and eat some chicken the leave the younger generation alone.
For this scene, Pentagon is in the car and it's connecting the meaning that they have reached their destination which means they have changed. They are portraying how they have abandoned the naughty personality and promise to become what their lover wants them to be. In conclusion, this shows how someone who is reckless and naughty can change because of ones love.

Music Video 3: Camerawork
iKON - ‘사랑을 했다(LOVE SCENARIO)’ M/V - https://youtu.be/vecSVX1QYbQ
In the begging of the music video, you get many close shots of a roll of films. The roll of films is so supposed to symbolize memories which is what the music video focuses on. When he began to roll it the actual song starts showing how the memories of his experiences begin. The song is about accepting a breakup and reliving the memories and this can be seen through the camera work of the music video.
The use of a camera dolly and editing creates this smooth transition which reflects how memories work by having the members go through the same sign and phone over and over again to show how that's memories work- a bit like a movie or drama.
Furthermore, even in this scene, the camera movement is made to transition smoothly and show the actual storyline of the relationship.

Music Video 4: Editing
BTS (防弾少年団) '血、汗、涙 -Japanese Ver.-' Official MV - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OX7dIRReSA
In the beginning, the editing pace is slower ad reflects the music at the time and it is clear to see at the ending The editing pace quicken to creates tension and build-ups excitement because the music pace quickens. Also in the vocal part at 2.55 the editing pace does slow down to bring attention the vocals.
Furthermore, the music video has very intense transitions, this is to reflect the meaning behind the music video, lyrics and albums. The harsh colours throughout the transitions reflect the emotions displayed in the mv.

Music Video 5: Conventions
DEAN - instagram
+Form of lip-syncing
Throughout the whole music video the main artist, Dean is lipsync is lipsyncing. There is a scene where he looks at the ground and doesn't lip-sync and it shows how the song and his emotions have overpowered him.
+Have a narrative.
+Have a narrative.
The music video doesn't really have a detailed narrative because the music video has been shot in one room however with the use of editing there is a small narrative by how the room is manipulated with editing till its breakpoint at 3.24 and this is created to reflect how the actual app has impacted him.
+Movement is essential to music video feature the band or artist
+Movement is essential to music video feature the band or artist
The music video has a lack of movement and is the artist sitting in the chair until he falls onto the ground. The lack of movement is created to reflect how Instagram restricts people and how Dean feels trapped within the Instagram feed to the point he can't take it anymore.
Treatment - song- Zombie English ver by DAY6
Throughout the music video, there will be a performance shot so them singing in a different place so where the time jumps are is where this would play.
The actor will step out of this cardboard car looking confused and disoriented(The location will be outside a house in the middle of the streets). They look left and right and see behind them will be a person wearing a creepy mask playing the guitar. (begins at 0.23 to 39). Then the following shots of the actor walking through the streets staring at the people wearing masks and constantly bumping into them(The masked guitarist continues to follow them). Then there will be there at the entrance of a school to establish a new location. At 1.29 the shots will be in school and the actor will be walking in the hallway. (like this but all the crosses are people wearing masks).
Then the student will begin running around the hallways looking for their class. At the near of the song, they will find their class and open the door to see the masks have all fallen on the ground the music video and song will fade out. The outro will be a video where the actor removes their headphone and realizes they are back to the normal world but on the table, they will see the mask placed.
Statement of Intent
Title= Living Dead
Genre= Kpop
insert short paragraph- intro
I plan to use KPOP genre for my music video because it has a diversity of music choices and the concept is unique. In the end, there will be outro after the song ends and the main actor will remove their headphones and there will be a close-up shot of the headphones and this will show the sponsorship. The two main filming locations will be the school (hallways and classroom) and the streets, which will further exemplify the fact that the narrative will be focused around a student. When meeting the music video convention there will be some form of lip-syncing when the band is performing in the music video. The music video does have a narrative which is about a student stuck in a world where everyone around them lacks the emotion of purpose. As the song progress, it can be seen wherever they go the world works with a lack of purpose and the more they run, the more chaos the world become. Right at the end when the student wakes up, they believe it just a nightmare however on their desk is a mask to show that they must become like the rest to survive. For movement, the music video definitely has continuous movement not until the song stop. This represents how the world is working like a treadmill there is no stop and in order to fit, they must continue working in the endless cycle. For shots, there will be main medium close up shots because this from the perspective of the student and there will be many long shots when recording to the performance video.
The music magazine will be called SideBeat. The magazine will have a retro 90's aesthetic but the colours will be deemed out to represent the bleak reality of the music video. The front cover will have a more generic pop aesthetic and will feature the band on the front cover and another upcoming artist on the corners. The 2-page interview is where the retro aesthetic will be more prevalent and there will an equal amount of photos and words to make sure the audience finds the magazine engaging. The style will continue with the tour advert and the advert will specifically almost look like a game cover to with the masked people lurking in the back.
The masks are supposed to represent how people have lost the meaning and purpose of their own lives. They have been stuck in a cycle of work and survival to the point where there truly do not have an idea of who they are. Throughout the music video, you will see these masked people do everyday things to show how the emotions have been taken out and they are living life because they have no other choice. The masked band players in the back of the singer represent how the music of life never ends no matter where and how fast they try to run. The music is slowly turning the singer like everyone else in order to fit into society. For the magazine, you can apply media language for the advert for the tour because the advert will have game style and this represents how life itself is quite like a game. Also, the magazine will have dull colours showing how life itself has been dulled down to the point where there is no saturation. When applying the character theory we can see how the main singer would be the hero and the princess because they would have to save themselves from this world. The villain could be the mask itself turning them to the emotionless character and the dream would be dispatcher who sent the singer to the task.
Applying the feminist theory the music video actually disapproves and breaks the stereotypes by making the main character will be androgynous and this reflects how this music video does not represent/impact only one genre but in fact represents everyone and this issue with society is the impact to us all and isn't limited to age, gender or class. This supports David Gauntlett theory about how gender and identity are becoming fluid which is shown in the music video however it also shows how personality/identity now seems to be manufactured and no one truly feels themselves.
My target psychographic would be mostly reformers and explores. Explorers because the music video has a focal point towards students and younger people, as a result, it will be relatable to such an audience and reformers cause the group is new and upcoming and reformers are more likely to be drawn to something more recent. Most of the audience would be already familiar with the Kpop genre to discover the song and they would be interested in other Kpop groups or bands. The music video has been created to feature a young actor and base the location around the school to attract the younger audience and the music video itself is simple with a complex purpose to attract people who are eager to understand the meaning behind. When applying Blumler and Katz theory, there are many audience gratifications for example personal identity. If the audience is too going through life and feeling themselves loose grip with purpose and meaning they will see themselves as the main character and be reflected through it. You can also apply diversion since the music video and the song combined will make the audience feel an escape from everyday life. The magazine will offer surveillance by providing information about their new song and tour.
Most of my audience would most likely find the music video on Youtube and the song would be available on Spotify so through Spotify they could check out the music video. The magazine "SideBeat" is quite popular and would be available in most music stores or big brand supermarkets.
