Coursework: Preliminary exercise

1) State the song and genre you have chosen for your music video.

genre- Kpop
song- zombie by Day6

2) Choose at least three music videos similar to your song or concept and watch them several times. Make bullet-point notes on everything you watch, commenting on camerawork, editing and mise-en-scene.
DEAN - instagram
+Form of lip-syncing
Throughout the whole music video the main artist, Dean is lipsync is lipsyncing. There is a scene where he looks at the ground and doesn't lip-sync and it shows how the song and his emotions have overpowered him.
+Have a narrative.
The music video doesn't really have a detailed narrative because the music video has been shot in one room however with the use of editing there is a small narrative by how the room is manipulated with editing till its breakpoint at 3.24 and this is created to reflect how the actual app has impacted him.
+Movement is essential to music video feature the band or artist
The music video has a lack of movement and is the artist sitting in the chair until he falls onto the ground. The lack of movement is created to reflect how Instagram restricts people and how Dean feels trapped within the Instagram feed to the point he can't take it anymore.

3) Write or edit your treatment just to include the 30-60 seconds you will make for this preliminary exercise.
Shots of the student walking in the street and most shots will include them walking down the streets and observing masked people. There will be also a performance shot of them performing outside various locations.eg bus stop, in front of the school

4) Write a shot list containing EVERY shot you plan to film AND additional shots to create flexibility when editing. These additional shots are often close-ups, cutaways, alternative angles or similar. I advise using a simple table on Microsoft Word to set out your shot list - you can find an example here
Take shots outside a bus stop with the 2 actors lipsyncing. I'll do a couple of mid shots and close-ups of them lip-syncing.
For the street shots, there will be a close up of the actor walking observing the background. Then there will be a long shot to establish the background. Then the student will look in one direction and the camera shot will be of that direction and it will be students casually walking down the streets. Then the camera will return to a mid-shot of the student looking back at the camera and continue walking. Then the actor will look behind to see someone waving from the back and stop. The character will run past the student and there will be an over the shoulder shot of the masked character meeting another character.

5) Plan your mise-en-scene: what iconography are you including to ensure your audience understands the genre or narrative? Plan your cast, costume, make-up, props, lighting and setting. For this preliminary task, use just one location to keep it simple.
Costume- I will go with baggy clothes and clothes which are very unisex to reflect the androgynous character. For mis-en-scene I will choose quite an urban street like locations, bus stop,

6) Plan a shooting schedule that will ensure everything is filmed by the deadline. Include when, where, who is required and what shots you will complete at each time/location. Remember: social distancing!
Narrative shots- Monday after school, Actors needed- Aman, Fadima, Me , Camera person: Faiza Location- Westbury avenue
